Our Story

Lewes Cycleshack was established in November 2009, in conjunction with Intersport of Lewes in the former Woolworths at 53 Cliffe High Street. The idea was mooted by Paul Benoy, and he joined with Steve Ranger in the new venture. Steve already ran another bike shop, Deers Leap Bikes in East Grinstead, which has a 230 acre mountain bike park too; and an outdoor shop in Lewes – The Gearshack.

Steve’s background was in outdoor instruction, having started and run what is now the UK’s largest independent outdoor company for 25 years – TrekCo. Steve’s main pursuit is rock climbing and in more recent years an increasing amount of mountain biking.

Paul Benoy became a financial guru by working for Barclays Bank for many years, and is well known in the local business community, having refused many loans to local businesses. He has since been running his own highly successful commercial finance company, Benoy Commercial Finance.

Paul is able to give expert advice for companies about the many benefits of cycling to work and purchasing bikes using the various tax and other advantages allowed – please see the Cycle to Work section for some of his help. You could also email on paul@lewescycleshack.co.uk or call 01273 479688

In 2013 we took over the former Future Cycles shop in Friars Walk to make Cycleshack 2 and keep up with demand for bikes and servicing – it seems everyone wants to cycle in Lewes!

In 2016 we joined together with Deers Leap Bikes to create a better experience on the web at our new website – www.cycle-shack.co.uk.
